Ed with 2008 National Championship Runner-Up & Dual Award Winner, DC Shadow Attack

Field Trial Training & Handling

Since training and trialing his first Brittany in 1974, Ed has enjoyed a strong involvement in AKC and American Field trials across the country. He has handled, scouted and judged in many of the most prestigious All Age and Gun Dog stakes held for Brittanys, and handled 6 dogs to 8 wins/placements in American Brittany Club National All Age Championships, including the 2005 National Amateur Champion, Tequila Jack II (co-owned by Bob Rankin & Ed Tillson, trained by Jim John). DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist placed in both the 2005 and 2007 National Championships, and DC Shadow Attack was Runner-Up at the 2008 National Championship. Taryn and Tack have been trained by Ed since puppyhood. Ed also handled DC Lost Creek Timber Ridge to his title and went on to place Rowdy 3rd in the 2009 National Championship. In addition, FC/AFC TJ's Prairie Blizzard who was bred, raised, trained & is always handled in Open stakes by Ed, was handled by Jessica Carlson for owner Vicki Rankin to 3rd Place in the 2011 National Amateur Championship.

Ed raised, trained and handled three consecutive Victoire Nationale (1-hour) Derby Championship Runners-Up: Nitro Express in 2006, Shadow Attack in 2007 and Tequila's Barbed Wire in 2008. In 2009, he won the Championship with Ugh Stumblin' From The Shadows. All of these winners came out of Ed's brood matron, FC/AFC The Prairie Tornado (pictured below).

Ed's Puppy and Derby contenders are given a great start with training on foot and horseback, introduced to birds, and focused on run and handling. From there, Gun Dog and All Age prospects are developed according to their individual talents and abilities. Ed competes in many one-hour Championships during the year, which gives the dogs an excellent opportunity to prove themselves in highly competitive stakes. Dogs in Ed's program are given top-notch attention to their conditioning, daily care and training. Each dog is treated like one of his own, and the owners kept in touch regularly on their dogs' progress and performance in trials.
